Abandoned Stations

by 1 other
Many stations of the New York City subway system have fallen into disuse or have been abandoned, no longer used by the Transit Authority for their original purpose: serving passengers. Some stations are fully abandoned, rotting away and seen only from passing trains. Others are in use as storage facilities. Some have extra platforms that were closed long ago. And some, like City Hall, are architectural marvels that give a glimpse into the city's past.

A lens is one person's view on a topic that matters to her. It's an easy-to-build, single web page that can point to blogs, favorite links, RSS feeds, Flickr photos, Google maps, eBay auctions, CafePress designs, Amazon books or music, and thousands of products from hundreds of other trusted merchants. You can pick whatever content you want to put in your lens to bring context to your topic. Then, when someone is looking for recommended information, fast, your lens gets his started and sends him off in the right direction. It's a place to start, not finish.

Peer Mind - Your Personal P2P Monitor

by 4 others
PeerMind uses Nareos state-of-the-art P2P Presence technology to constantly monitor the global P2P networks. Currently, we monitor EDonkey 2000 and Gnutella networks, and we are working on adding FastTrack and BitTorrent. PeerMind registers millions of file-sharing events every week, and you can see the aggregated results on this site. Using that data, we publish weekly charts of top P2P songs, movies, games and software titles. Our charts show the total number of copies of an item that were available on peer-to-peer file sharing networks during the week. As we collect huge amounts of data every week, there are some even more exciting things that can be discovered from that data. Nareos will broaden the range of charts and reports, offering some of them for free to the general public.

Mouse Print

“mouse print” is the fine print in advertising or in a contract, often buried out of easy sight. In the worst cases, the mouse print changes the meaning of, or contradicts the primary claims or promises being made. Sometimes, the catch is not even disclosed. The website, Mouse Print*, literally turns advertising on its head by focusing on an ad’s asterisked fine print footnote rather than the headline. The goal is to help educate the public about the catches or “gotchas” in disclaimers, and to encourage advertisers to abandon the motto, “the big print giveth, and the little print taketh away.”
