A Great Read!” SEPTEMBER 7 tags: austin american statesman, posterous, social media by Dave Levy There are some things that will newspapers will always be able to uniquely contribute when it comes to news and information. For a fascinating example, Steve Rubel pointed to a case at the American Statesman down in Austin last week, and it’s worth taking a close look not just because of the technology that Rubel is currently poster-childing. Posterous is a cool idea when it comes to expanding what can be done with the current “its” of social media: lifestreaming and microblogging. Looking in part like a Tumblr blog, it’s controlled through a very low participation barrier. No registration – just e-mail what you want to say and it starts your very own stream. That’s it. There is plenty of customization you can do, but there’s no need. It wins on two of the levels that Twitter did – simplicity and universal access – and that’s probably why Steve has gravitated to it. This post is not about Posterous, though, it’s about what the Statesman is doing with it. The paper is using the tool as a new way to continue what papers have been doing for hundreds of years: …bring the local community together with unique content that relates to them and only them.!” Dave Levy

OK, this summer I’ve been to a lot of different places. London. New York. Boulder. Seattle. Hollywood. Los Angeles. Indianapolis. San Antonio. In each place it’s become obvious how much Twitter has taken over the world. In every city it seems like every business is drinking the Twitter koolaide.

Steve Rubel does a great How To On Posterous ! “As I mentioned last night, as more of my friends join Posterous and use it as a hub to populate their I am becoming a huge fan of their built in reader. It’s helping me discover all kinds of new, substantive content that is hard to find in Twitter or even multiple blog RSS feeds. Today I found out you can actually subscribe to the Posterous peeps you follow via RSS. Here’s how. First, visit posterous.com/reader in your browser. If you’re using Firefox, Safari or IE, the RSS icon should light up. Then all you need to do is subscribe to that feed. I am wondering if this one day will become my preferred input channel — especially if Posterous becomes as real-time as Friendfeed, Facebook and Twitter. It still feels slow right now, like blogging. Then again, much of the content already finds its way into all three sites. So this might be moot. Still, for now, it’s cool for me. !” Steve Rubel http://blog.posterous.com/

'On a Note of Triumph' : NPR

February 20, 2009 'On a Note of Triumph' : NPR Norman Corwin Image via Wikipedia Greatest Radio Show Ever As the end of World War II in Europe came in sight, Norman Corwin was asked to prepare a special broadcast, to be held ready for V-E Day. This is that broadcast. It is Corwin's masterpiece. Even after half a century, it is arguably the finest use of the radio medium ever achieved. "… a vast announcement, a terrific interrogatory, one of the all-time great American poems." – Poet Carl Sandburg NPR.org, May 26, 2005 · On May 8, 1945, 60 million Americans tuned in to hear On A Note of Triumph, Norman Corwin's radio masterpiece marking the end of World War II in Europe. Lauded by Carl Sandburg as "one of the all-time great American poems," it was the most listened-to radio drama in U.S. history. In the 1950’s I majored in Radio Tv and Film at the university of Miami [Fla] there were a lot of very talented folks in school with me, and one afternoon Dave Madden a classmate of mine who in later years was in the Partridge Family and Laugh In, listened to On A note Of Triumph-This was what radio used to be-it is important that if you study Communication Arts today you should listen to this-I follow Dave Winer on the internet and he seems to be a follower of all forms of media this is important to all of us-with the collapse of the Old Media we need a reference point- Norman Corwin celebrated his 97th birthday on May 3, 2007, and today lives in Los Angeles, keeping busy as always. He is still writing for radio, and is writer in residence at the Journalism School at USC. He writes articles for various publications, and is active in various organizations in and around the Los Angeles area. I really approve of this message-so did Lamont Cranston-The Shadow he Shadow is a collection of serialized dramas, originally on 1930s radio and then in a wide variety of media, that follow the exploits of fictional vigilante The Shadow.[2] One of the most famous pulp heroes of the 20th century, The Shadow has been featured in comic books, comic strips, television, video games, and at least seven motion pictures. The radio drama is well-remembered for those episodes voiced by Orson Welles. MarshalSandler.com is a playground of ideas, introductions, and synergies. I Was Shocked Today

Posted on Feb 17, 2009 by Frank Eliason in Personal, Social Media | 2 Comments Nobody seems to want me to blog about “Maggots in our Mushrooms.” I have been planning that post yesterday and today, but tomorrow is another day. Normally I am up on the blogs mentioning Comcast but today someone beat me to it. I received an email with a link to a TechCrunch blog: ”Survey of Insular Media Elite Says Twitter is Better Than Facebook for Business.” First let me say that I am not shocked that Twitter is better for business than Facebook. We are in both spaces and we definitely know Twitter is a better space to engage with your Customers. There is an easy reason why Twitter is so good: ”What are you doing?” Think about all the market research that goes into answering that very question. Now you can go to Twitter Search and get the answer to the question. As a business you can easily learn how people use your product or interact with your company. Here is the complete list:

This last week I had to contact GMAC about my car lease after 5 minutes I wound up in Manila the Week before I had to contact AT&T about my bill got locked in Voice mail Jail, if either firms had been monitoring twitter they could respond-all service companies belong on twitter, if they care ! I have resolved any service problems with Comcast thru Twitter and their Service Comcast Cares . I once wanted more information on Comcast Web Mail that has been really beefed up ! I twittered got great response from a Tech at Comcast - Of course I am a fan of Comcast Cares they don't confuse efforts with results and their increased customer base proves it ! I also would not object if Comcast or any other firm I do business with advertised their services on Twitter ! [Talmud ] In my reads I find Dave Winer in the top slot as King Of Content Creation with Gusto ! I personally have only talked with Chris Brogan so I have to view the others as I read them ! For years I have been a student of General Semantics : Advocates of General Semantics view it as a form of mental hygiene that enables practitioners to avoid ideational traps built into natural language and “common sense” assumptions, thereby enabling practitioners to think more clearly and effectively. General Semantics thus shares some concerns with psychology but some do not consider it specifically as a therapeutic system, evaluating it as more focused on enhancing the abilities of normal individuals than curing pathology. This post What made the Mac different Saturday, January 24, 2009 by Dave Winer. Is a great read and is a nice complement to Guy Kawasaki ! The people who I have mentioned above will be the driving force behind what many have called Social Media ! At 72 years old I was brought up on the old media and am afraid it is as dead As Custer ! I watch with saddness as it shuffes off the mortal coil ! Mortal coil is a poetic term that means the troubles of daily life and the strife and suffering of the world. It is used in the sense of a burden to be carried or abandoned, most famously in the phrase “shuffle[d] off this mortal coil” from Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
